  1. the diaphragm and respiratory muscles

are responsible for the expansion of the

    lungs during the exhalation...

it increases the size of the thorax and

    decreases the pressure that allows

    the lungs to expand...

  2. - diaphragm.

It separates the lungs from the gut (where the stomach, intestines etc are)

  3. The diaphragm.  Lungs are organs.  the respiratory muscle means nothing as far as I know, note never taken anatomy or some such.  And mammals don't have air sacs.  So, definitely going with diaphragm.

  4. diaphragm

  5. diaphragm - its a muscle under the lungs that helps the lungs to expand when you breathe in

  6. Mammals use their diaphragm when breathing in and out.  When the diaphragm moves down (or contracts) you breathe in. When your diaphragm moves up (or relaxes) you breathe out. The external intercostal muscles are also used when breathing but the diaphragm is the primary source.
