  2. c.  ATP is produced in the mitochondria.  Because the mitochondrial membrane is impermeable to charged substances, a transporter is required to allow ADP to enter and ATP to leave mitochondria.  This transporter is called the adenine nucleotide translocase.  It exchanges mitochondrial ATP and cytosolic ADP.
