The last lines of the British National anthem?

does anyone else feel that they have altered this in the last few years?

in the last line of 'God save the queen' it used to be four notes, as in dar, dar, dar, dar. but it now seems to be six notes as in dar, dar-dar-dar, dar, dar'

i feel this is wrong as the song doesn't have this, or certainly for decades and decades it hasn't been sung like this.

wha'do you think?

  1. The standard version is

    God save our gracious Queen,

    Long live our noble Queen,

    God save the Queen:

    Send her victorious,

    Happy and glorious,

    Long to reign over us:

    God save the Queen.

    O Lord, our God, arise,

    Scatter her enemies,

    And make them fall.

    Confound their politics,

    Frustrate their knavish tricks,

On Thee our hopes we fix,

    God save us all.

    Thy choicest gifts in store,

    On her be pleased to pour;

    Long may she reign:

    May she defend our laws,

    And ever give us cause

To sing with heart and voice

    God save the Queen.*

    * When the monarch of the time is male, beyond the other alterations mentioned above, the last line of the third verse is changed to

"with heart and voice to sing/ God Save the King".

  2. Send her victorious da da da da-da

happy and glorious da da da da-da

Long to reign over us da da da da-da-da

God save the queen da da da da

    That is correct.

  3. que!

  4. The British National anthem is just The English National anthem with another name. Just like everything British, its really all English.

My national Anthem is Flower of Scotland.

  5. No future,

    no future

    no future for you..

  6. Most correctly it is 5 notes.  Go-od save the Queen; though sometimes a 6th quick note is inserted for who knows what reason so it become Go-o-od save the Queen.

  7. it's goodbye from me, and it's goodbye from him, will the last monarchist please turn out the light?

  8. As a classically trained pianist,my musically-inclined answer is that a flourish,an improvisation of musical notes has been added to the basic standard. That is why music is called "an arrangement." The musicians sometimes add their own flavor to the music to make it more"interesting."

  9. The last lines of the song are:

    'Long to reign over us

    God save the Queen'.

However, as BEC pointed out, as with many accompaniments, the music does not follow the words exactly!

And I still think it's an awful national anthem!
