The last two chances to qualify for the Players Championship – Golf News
A total of 65 players are getting ready to contend against each other at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, with an aim to qualify for the Players Championship through a win at the TPC Louisiana event.
According to the qualification criteria for the Players Championship, players need to be listed among the top-10 in the FedEx rankings or top-50 in the Official World Golf Rankings to qualify.
Currently, the participants in the event underway at TPC Louisiana are nowhere near to making it to both the list without a win in the tournament.
Matt Every (24) is currently the highest ranked player in the FedEx Cup rankings, who has yet to qualify, and is participating in the Zurich Classic. He has more than 300-point difference to Brandt Snedeker.
A maximum of 300 points are awarded to a player who takes the solo second place in the event. Therefore, the only way to make it in the top-10 is a win.
While talking about the OWGR, Bud Cauley (105) is the highest ranked player in the field. Therefore, he too needs a win to make it to the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course.
However, it will not be an easy job to record a victory at TPC Louisiana because of the strong field. A total of nine PGA Tour winners of the 2012 season are confirmed to tee off on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
In addition to that, 12 major winners, including two reigning champions, are also in the list of the Zurich Classic.
Among them, Bubba Watson is currently the hot favourite to win the tournament because of his recent form on the tour.
Watson won the Masters Tournament early in the month and headed to TPC Louisiana in order to defend his title.
Apart from that, he has a total of four top-10 finishes in the eight events that he has played so far in 2012 PGA Tour season.
Therefore, it will be a tough job to beat him, especially when he is enjoying the best days of his career.
The non-qualified players will get another chance next week, when they will tee off at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte. It will be the last tournament before the Players Championship.
