  1. Are you just stirring the pot, or are you actually so bike dumb as to believe this?

  2. Have you considered have much injury you would suffer, if you were strapped onto a motorcycle that slams into a wall, rather than safely being thrown clear?

    No, obviously you haven't...

  3. It would be very impractical for bikers and their pillion passengers to wear seat belts.  Their best chance in a road accident is to be thrown clear.  Wearing a good helmet and heavy riding leathers and boots should offer a considerable amount of protection from a 'slide'.  Impact usually means being thrown over the vehicle etc.

    See what I mean. . . .

  4. why oh why would you want to be stuck to half a ton of motorbike on its side at 70mph i don't know

  5. Do you know what, I sort of thought that myself, but it would be a bit of a mission to get one that actually works.

When a Motorcycle goes in a ditch, if wearing a belt, you would be strapped to nothing, because you're usually left sat on the bike anyway. Basically cause no effect anyway.

    It would be interesting though,

    I totally agree

  6. "Sound strange that motorbike are legal at all."

Precisely a point of debate the last time I was stopped for no seat belt by a motorcycle cop.   I pointed out that he was at much greater risk on his motorcycle than I was in my car, with or without a belt.

The thrown-clear argument doesn't only apply to motorcycles either.  There have been car accidents in which a person has survived only because he was not buckled up and was thrown clear.

  7. when was the last time u saw a bikewith a seat post to bolt a belt to....

    yup...its a strange looking beast...

  8. In a car accident, you are safest in your seat, inside the car.

In a motorbike accident, you are safest if you part company with the machine.

  9. I think any bike rider will tell you that if you are about to visit the tarmac for a close inspection, the first thing you want to do is to seperate from the bike.

In fact, seatbelts on bikes should be banned, its much safer to go in a different direction to all that metal.

  10. Sound strange that motorbike are legal at all.

I've been in few motorcycle accidents.  The last thing you want during a fall is to be tethered to 400 pound of tumbling metal.

    Good luck...

  11. There is no law for wearing a seatbelt for motorcycles because if someone is in back of you, you are responsible for their safety. If they get hurt or something it's legally your fault. But the person in back is so-posed to hold on to you.

  12. You would have a better chance of staying alive if the bike was not strapped to you with a seat belt.....somewhat better..

  13. the reason motorcycles don't have seat belts or riders and passengers is in the event you crash or lay the bike down ,you'll stop moving long before the bike does and  can get away from 300lbs to 1000 lbs of metal instead of being slamed to the ground and having it on top of you until it comes to a stop, for both the rider and the passenger it is safer not to be attached to the bike with straps or seat belts
