Conte’s lawyers went on the offensive against Carobbio yesterday; questioning his credibility on the matter, however, the lawyers of Carobbio have retaliated.
Antonio Conte is visibly irked by his current predicament; which sees him with the prospect of facing a lengthy ban from football if he fails to prove his innocence when the trial goes to court. The Juventus manager had requested for a plea bargain which would have seen him banned from the game for 3 months along with a fine of 200,000 Euros.
However, the request was rejected by the FIGC, and there had been reports suggesting that the former Siena manager would be looking to register another plea. The revised time period of the ban would have been 5 months with a fine of 100,000 Euros.
Conte has not requested such a plea bargain, and is now looking to fight the case with the risk of being banned from the game for 15 months and tarnishing his immaculate reputation along the way. No evidence has been collected against Conte, and Carobbio’s word is taken for the allegations.
Antonio De Rensis, Antonio Conte’s lawyer, spoke up against the case and inadvertently brought the credibility of Carobbio into question.
Simone Giuliani has lashed out against the remarks made against his client, and stated that Carobbio had been extremely brave in his quest for mending his ways. Giuliani went on to state that it is disappointing to see the former Siena player being targeted and bashed in such a negative light.
The lawyer of Carobbio remarked:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Filippo-Carobbio-c13775 has had the courage to break the wall of silence that unfortunately still exists in football.”
In his conference with the media personnel, he went ahead and stated that his client was doing his time for the transgressions he had done, but he went on to state that he does not deserve to be ridiculed and have his family threatened on a regular basis, and remarked:
“He acknowledged his mistakes and is paying for them, but it is unacceptable that he should continue to face severe threats, slander and repeated aggression towards his family, as he has for the past few days on the internet.”
Conte must prove that he was not in the knowledge of matches being fixed during his time at Siena.
