The leaves of the tomato plants are turning yellow? Any ideas -- why or what we should do?

They're in large pots and bearing tomoatos.

  1. lack of nitrogen ? they probably need some fertilizer  . doil a soil test and see what trace elements you need , your local cooperative extension will test the soil for you if you don't want to buy  the kit .


  2. Cut off the yellow stems, cut off any non fruit bearing stems that are low to the ground.  Fertilizer will help but take care not to over fertilize because they are in containers.  Good luck!!

The bottom leaves naturally turn yellow as the season goes on. this is caused by the close proximity to humidity caused by the moist compost. these leaves should be removed anyway as the plant progresses. if other leaves are yellowing it could be due to over watering or they need a feed of specific tomato fertilizer.

  4. could be wilt-over watering ?this time of the year most tomato plants cant handle the humid air even though they are hot weather plants
