I take a day off from class on the day before exams..people ask why i'm absent?

Obviously the real reason is that I find it more practical to say home and study than to waste time going to class and listening to garbage.

Yet, they keep asking me why i'm absent just before the exam (i've been doing this for quite some time now..years!). What should I tell my lecturer who probably knows the reason i am absent, yet persists in asking me why?

  1. lol i do the same thing ..just tell them you were sick and leave it at that..dont exaggerate keep it simple

  2. tell him you overslept because you were doing something (name it) before the day of the day before exams... wow tounge twister

  3. Your problem is that the lecturer resents you for not considering his/her lectures worthy of attendance. This resentment may manifest itself as bias in their marking of your work. I was there myself once, academics can be right pricks sometimes. Get your marks double checked by an intermediate party if you feel you have been hard done by. Most unis cater for this request.

  4. NO KIDDING!  I get asked this question all the time!  There was this one professor who asked me for 4 straight semesters when I re-took his class.  I mumbled, "Geez, stop hassling me."

  5. Tell them nothing, it's none of his or her business. But understand that they will penalize you for this if you keep this up.

  6. Tell him it's not of his business, ideally, but in reality, you'll probably have to use more tact and present a valid reason.

We all must strive to be independent, and free from these types of people.

  7. Simply say, "I find it easier to soak in everything I have to learn at home, so that's what I do, I take the day off and study by myself with my books".

  8. Explain to them that you are studying at home for your exam.  If he is asking as roll or participation is part of your grade, you could docked points.   Maybe he expects that there is some important assignment, quiz, review session, or other thing on the last day that is important to your lecturer.  I would tell them the truth.

  9. dont lie or make anything up, tell him/her the truth, specially since you know they already know why

  10. "I've been having problems with the family, my aunt is having major health issues and I had to care for her"

  11. Say it's for personal reasons and leave it at that.  It is literally true and if the lecturer keeps asking, then he/she is rude.

  12. I'm not sure I disagree with your motivation for doing it.

However, as a point of personal introspection, your "question" is really defensive and a bit paranoid.

Why not discuss it with the instructor?  He/she might actually appreciate an inquisitive, aggressive mind.  But not a defensive one.

  13. May be it is better to tell the real reason for your absence. There is nothing bad in the fact that you have decided to prepare for the exam at home. I had the same wish before my exams because I think it had more sense than listening to what won't help us.

  14. Say you had a personal matter to take care of.  However, don't you know that most teachers usually give reviews and hints as to what's going to be on the exam the day before?  Get your butt to class!  That's the worst one to miss, and probably why everyone's asking why you're dumb enough to miss it.

  15. Tell them that you get terribly anxious before exams -- tell your lecturer that it helps you with your test anxiety to stay home before the exam and calm yourself with self-study.

  16. Well they will think you lack the application for it to be worth them working with you when other pupils apply themselves better!!

Sadly you are building a pattern of behavior that will not help you when you have to seek employment!

  17. Tell the lecturer the truth; s/he might give you some suggestions as to why you should go to class the day prior. For ex., maybe s/he gives out samples questions, hints, etc .Or maybe s/he guides the class in a review of facts that will be on exam. Or s/he may laugh and say "Great idea!"

  18. one one hand its none of their business cause you dont have to be there if you dont want to.

but you can only miss class so many times before youre dropped. (im guessing youre in college) so just keep that in mind. but i do agree that sometimes you feel like youre better off at home studying. but then again if theyre going through a different lecture and not reviewing then you could be missing out.

but ultimately they are probably nosy cause most professors have more important things to do anyway
