Dr. Dewell Gann (1875-1945) was one of Benton Arkansas's first doctors and a very prominant free mason. As the legend goes he was mumified and then buried in an elaborate gold trimmed casket with two bags of gold coins, a 24k gold rosary, gold rings and other valuable items that today would be worth close to $ 1 million . He is buried in a 105 year old stone crypt in Benton is there any truth to the matter.

  1. There was a Doctor Dewell Gann in Benton, Arkansas in 1920.  However, he was born in March or May 1863 according to the 1900 census. His son, Dewell J., was 29 and a surgeon and lived in Little Rock in 1920.  Dewell Sr. also had a daughter Ive or Iva.  I would bet that he has descendants in Benton or Little Rock you could contact and check the story, but I am doubtful that he was wealthy, because his patients, who couldn't pay their bills, built his office.  Here is a link to the Gann Museum.
