  2. Although there were many kingdoms within Britain, some of the "Kings" still treated each other like royalty like different countries do today. Some were allies and married one another. The line does still exist through our Queen today but there is definately a line from them even if it does waver a bit!!

A lot of the British is of AngloSaxon origin and so,  no,  it does not matter.

  3. Really? I would be interested in reading more about that.

It really doesn't matter, probably, to Parliament, since there have been laws passed in the meantime to legitimize the current monarchy. I think the bloodlines matter less than who the people support as monarch.

  4. Well, a lot of people say that the Queen is mostly German. However, even though she has a lot of German ancestry, she is indeed a direct descendant of Alfred the Great, who is largely responsible for uniting Wessex with the other Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and forming what is now England, and William the Conqueror.

  5. Parliament doesn't care, the Queen has no political power so her legitimacy affects nothing. The anglo-saxon 'royal line' isn't really that. Each tribe had a King or Queen, it wasn't until the Normans invaded that our current system was really established. It really doesn't matter any more. The winners write history and the best people are around today in the current monarchy. The Athelstan line isn't really alive today because they lost out to the aforementioned Normans.
