  1. They basically have a system where a small number of dominant males or sometimes a single male patrols the territory of a pride of females.  Prides vary in size but could include several adult females and their families.  The males will take whatever they want.  The reason that works is because the females need them to prevent other males from killing their young and also males are tough enough to menace their biggest enemy, hyenas.  The females hunt as a team and it is basically every lioness fights for every bite on a kill when times are tough.   Wolves have a much more defined hierarchy with very well defined rules.  In their society, nobody eats until the alpha pair allows them.

  4. Big macho lion, several lionesses, babies.  Male babies thrown out of herd at about 9months/1year.   If male take over another pride of lionesses he kills the cubs that are not his and have not left.   Male lions fight to find a mate
