The love tale of the McLaren duo revealed…
The ever so energetic, high-spirited Lewis Hamilton and the happy go lucky, handsome star of Formula One, Jenson Button, have always been famous for their great friendship. As the 2009 champion, Button joined McLaren, earlier this
year, there were rumours that the 2008 champion, Hamilton was not so happy about it; however, it is only now that Lewis revealed that he insisted the team to take Button as his teammate.
From the childhood memories of Hamilton, one that he remembers very vividly is about driving for McLaren, and luckily, McLaren has been the first team the driver joined, as he launched his Formula One career. Since then he has
been a proud member of the leading team. The only black driver in the sport ever, Hamilton won his first championship with the same team and it was not very late that people started calling McLaren, Hamilton’s team.
As Button decided to shift from the title winner team of 2009, Brawn GP, many warned him that he would be overshadowed by the strong presence of Hamilton in the team. At the same time, many warned Hamilton also that his dominance
will come to an end if another champion is teamed up with him.
However, nothing of this sort happened. On the contrary, all through the 2010 season both the drivers have been recognized as one of the best pairs on the grid, and have cherished a very strong bond of friendship with each other.
Now, at the end of the first season together, Hamilton revealed to the media that Button was actually his choice, and that he insisted his team boss, Martin Whitmarsh to ask Button to join the squad.
While talking to the media he said earlier today,
"I remember all these other drivers - Kimi Raikkonen, Nick Heidfeld and a few others - who were being looked at. I kept on calling the bosses and trying to find out who they were going to be signing. They were never too sure. I do remember saying to Martin,
'Have you spoken to Jenson?' He said, 'You know what, I haven't'.”
Hamilton believes that Martin was concerned if he would be all right with another champion in the team. The British driver further concluded saying,
"I didn't have any problems with it. I just wanted the best driver alongside me to help me do the job for the team. Next thing I know, they had a great conversation with him. It turned out to be the best choice for the team. We've got a great relationship,
he has done an incredible job all year and hopefully we're going to have many more good years ahead of us.”
