  1. We have their view based on what we have gathered our entire life. I think it is not closed minded.  We are not going to change because someone else said so. It has to be something we believe in and willing to adopt as our own point of view.

  2. What is the point of WHAT? Democracy? Discussions? Getting up in the morning.....?

Everyone has a few issues on which they refuse to budge, whether they are "left wing" or "right wing" or "neither".

  3. Focus on what you agree upon with someone and then compare similarities in the viewpoints. Negate differences and don't focus upon them - most people do the opposite focusing on differences in the viewpoint and then people take up arms to defend their decision making abilities. When you're looking to understand rather than defend, then things begin to work rightly. One of the people have to be big enough to realize that this person is simply acting out of what's most natural -  understand that and humanize the conversation to be friends instead of adversaries. You can name innumerable things wrong with someone or something you don't like, and innumerable good things about that which you do. It's not about whether or not those points are plausible it's about the basis of whether or not you like them which are most often for very simple reasons.
