The meaning of houses in starsigns/astrollogy?

i read in someones question that they are in the 5th house? what does it mean? and could you tell what house im in and a bit about it? im Taurus

Pretend that you're looking at the Earth from a distance, with the place you were born at the top.  Now imagine a big circle around the Earth that is divided into 12 pieces like a pie.  Each piece of the sky relative to the horizon is called a House, and they each correlate to one of the 12 signs, starting from the first slice below the horizon on the left ("East") side of the circle, and moving in a counter-clockwise direction all the way around:

1st: House of Self (correlates to the first sign in the zodiac, Aries)

2nd: House of Wealth (correlates to the second sign, Taurus)

3rd: House of Communication (correlates to the third sign, Gemini)

and so on.

The sign (which is not the same thing as a constellation) that was coming up over the Eastern horizon at the time and place of birth is called the Ascendant, and it changes very rapidly.  The degree it is in has a profound effect on everything else in the chart.  If you know the exact time you were born and place you were born, then you can calculate what parts of the zodiac each one of the planets was in (that is, which sign) and also what parts of the sky in relation to the Earth/horizon they were all in (which Houses).  Each planet will express it's energies differently depending on not just the sign it's in, but the House.

First, you should have posted your DOB, time and location so I could tell you about your 5th house..

The 5th house deals with children, speculations and your love affairs. It deals with creativity and enjoyment. Your outeard demonstration of your talents and abilities are shown through tis house as well.

We consider this house as a "Show and Tell" house,

On another level, this is the party house. People tend togamble with love and / or money. Romance is that feeling which makes us feel special, different, unique, and desired. It is the house of lovers and it shows our tendencies towards romance.
