Shawty used to be a person who is young or small spelt 'shorty' back in the day. Shawty has recently changed in meaning and is more specifically a female that from a man's perception is short. The term shawty describes a girl that is shorter than her male counterpart. It has been used in rap music for decades and is used in old Snoop Dogg and 2 Pac songs e.g. 'Shorty wanna be a thug', which is evidence of it's older roots in rap music.
