Question:

The media and critically acclaimed bands?

I can't stand when the media praise bands such as The Vines (whom I love) etc and then as soon as they release other albums they compare it to their debut and the other releases aren't given a chance.

Other examples are The Strokes and the Kooks

Just wondered what peoples opinions on this topic were?

  1. Yeah it's really annoying but that's the way the media tends to work.

That is the only reason why the past 3 Nine Inch Nails albums (besides Ghosts) have gotten c**p reviews, because critics will always be comparing Reznor's new material to the masterpiece that was "The Downward Spiral" . It doesn't happen all the time though. I have noticed that Radiohead's "Kid A" and "In Rainbows" have garnered critical praise with little to no comparison to "Ok Computer"

And of course Nirvana became vitctims to "Nevermind" That is why Incesticide, and In Utero were not as well liked.

But to be fair, people always want to compare new material with something (whether it be another bands new material, or the band itself, and its older material, so why not compare it to the best the band has put out.
