Global warming gases trapped in the soil are bubbling out of the thawing permafrost in amounts far higher than previously thought and may trigger what researchers warn is a climate time bomb.

  1. Why should they start a panic when there are still a lot of cars that need to be sold?!?

  2. Because the corporate media has  a lot of corporate advertisers that would frown on that story.

  3. That will not happen. Global CO2 is such a minor greenhouse gas that this is not a concern. Remember, historically we are just at the 2,000 year temp average. This means that for much of the past history, the earth was warmer, and during those warm times, the permafrost (which was melted then) did not release poison gas (or what most normal people call CO2) killing all life forms on earth.

  4. That's a good question.  Probably because the media is interested in ratings more than science.  You're right that methane and CO2 released from melting permafrost is a huge threat which could make the planet warm very rapidly.  It's covered in scientific media sources, but I guess it's not exciting enough for the mainstream media.

  5. because permafrost does not sell papers, polar bears not having glaciers to play on does.

  6. Probably because the so called "Global Warming" isn't a new thing.  It has been going on for millions of years.  There are always some people who will make money off of doomsday predictions and then there are other people who make their money off of actually studying the past.  If you study the past, you would see that the climate has been going through drastic periodic climate changes for as long as the earth has been here.  It will continue to do so, regardless of what we do.  What we do have control over is the filth that we choose to live in/with - for example- smog, over-filled dumps, a lack of fossil fuels, etc.  Instead of worrying about what we can't control, we should focus on what we can - recycling, cleaner forms of energy that are renewable, etc.
