The media should stop talking about Sachin’s retirement: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 – Cricket News Update
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556 for his 100 international centuries, and believes that the speculation surrounding the veteran batsman’s retirement needs to end.
“I think the media should stop talking about his retirement. Great cricketers know when to go,” said Akram.
Tendulkar’s looming 100th century record had the entire cricketing world in a fix as the batsman seemed to have fallen into a miserable batting slump. After scoring his last century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in the World Cup last year, he went on to
register dismal scores such as 3, 14, and 15 during the Commonwealth Bank series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 scored 114 off 147 balls.
With the weight of expectations off his shoulders, the 38-year-old went on to register 52 off 48 against Pakistan in the match on March 18, and Akram predicts that the batsman will play more freely now that there is nothing looming over his head.
Following his achievement, Sachin’s retirement has become a cause for debate, and while the right-hander insists that he is in good form, and has no intention to retire, his upcoming 39th birthday on April 24th has only increased speculations.
Akram, however, insists that Sachin can still be an asset to the game.
“If I was him, I'd probably prioritise Test cricket … I still feel he has so much to offer to Indian cricket as a player. But being the great man, he wants to play all formats, fair enough. If he is okay with it, none of us should really talk about it …
we should let the decision rest with Sachin.”
Tendulkar is arguably the most revered modern-day batsman, and his 100th ton is just one among a pile of other records. He also holds the all-time records for most runs in ODIs (18426) and Test matches (15470), and Akram feels that the cricketing
world should enjoy Sachin for as long as he chooses to play.
“No praise can be enough for a man who has redefined the words 'commitment and dedication',” Akram said.
