The men in Paris, France?

I was in Paris for a few days this summer, and I couldn't help but notice that most of them stare. Like A LOT. And they really did nothing to hide it. I found this very uncomfortable and rude. Why do they do this?

yes its totally normal here ....when a guy is lookin at you its because something attract him ...it depends but generally, when a guy look at me i am proud ,its cool .its like that in our country.its the same for girl....there re a lotttttt of flirt in the streets in france ...;))) but for us its normal hehe^^

The French are known to appreciate and honour femininity and the human body. I don't think they were perving at you - they were probably just looking at you because they appreciate you. This is also why in France, they also have nude beaches because they believe the human body isn't something to hide away. Most of them are aware that these aren't customs in other countries but because you were in Paris, they were just being themselves.

Actually, people in France tend to, by American standards, stare at everyone. Its simply a difference in what is regarded as socially acceptable.

Americans who call people by their first names without being given permission or who ask relative strangers questions about their income or the cost of things they own are regarded as crude and obnoxious by the French.

Every country has differenct customs and different standards and you need to recognize that.

Bonjour ! in France, when a man or a woman stare at a person of the opposite s*x, it's called : mater or draguer !

It means that person is interested in knowing you and wants you to know it !

If that person is extremly beautiful, you feel good and no one would think of perversion !

But I admit, it can also feel very unconfortable sometimes but as Rillifane says, each country has got his own ways and culture !

I think that Frenchmen appreciate women and adore looking at beautiful and attractive women.  I think that by looking (or staring as you put it) they are expressing that appreciation.  

A French woman would be flattered by this attention I think.

Men in France just appreciate beautiful women and it's kind of a game here to stare each other. That's flattering when someone look at you like that, but I can understand it can make some people uncomfortable. Take it as a compliment!
