The men's interprovincial golf tournament sides with Wellington
The men's interprovincial golf tournament ended today with team Wellington becoming one of the most flourishing and unbeaten districts in the history of the tournament.
According to the leaderboard, Team Wellington and North Harbour ended the fight with a 4-1 with the winner from the year 2005 defeated.
The tournament was held at the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club located on the Kapiti Coast where the conditions were more than just adverse. With the golfers all aiming for the top place, the winds decided to go against the spirited
line-up and came up rather strong with a little bit of rain in instalments.
As far as the winners are concerned, Wellington currently holds the honour of being the team with the most wins and thus stand at the top of the list. The team had been the holder of the title of the ‘best provincial team’ about
a decade ago and finally won the interprovincial against North Harbour after a tough brawl top secure the title again.
From Wellington’s side, the team was led by Adam Church who performed brilliantly against the competition. Church had been leading the team in the year 2007, 2008 as well as the year 2009 where unfortunately the team had been on
the losing side.
According to the captain, the team played a brilliant game together and the current win means a lot to them. Over the span of the previous spell, the team had worked passionately which has apparently paid off fruitfully.
“Getting to the semis and the finals and then failing to step on to the top was always disappointing, but thankfully this time we were able to cross the threshold for the win” Church said.
While talking to the media the captain said that his teammates had been working really hard for this win. He said that considering the amount of hard work the team did, they deserved the win as well.
“Of course there were upsets, but the team stuck to what it had planned” he said.
And so they did. Team Wellington had been in Control of the game throughout the tournament that displayed tremendously at the semi-finals. The play was against an Otago side which faltered after the give away from a 3.5 to 1.5.
The winner’s line-up included the likes of Tom Brockelsby, Peter Spearman-Burn, Ben Campbell, Adam Church, Carl Tupangaia and last but not least, James Betts.
