  1. Perhaps you are referring to the pluvial lake, Lake Bonneville.  It was a precursor to the present day Great Salt Lake.  Its prehistoric level can be seen some 900+ feet above the present levelof GSL.

    An ice dam broke and flooded and scoured the Snake River Basin in Idaho.  The lake covered most of western Utah and parts of Nevada.

  3. if you mean a water way stretching from the arctic ocean down to the gulf then yes, it was there, covering most of the midwest
