  1. Cuba has two currencies.  Their regular peso is for Cuban residents only.  The tourist currency is called the Cuban Convertible Peso.  You can only buy/sell these in Cuba.  You won't get a better exchange for US dollars so just bring your national currency.

The best place to buy your convertible pesos is at the airport.  You can also exchange at banks and some resorts/hotels.

Have a fun trip - Cuba is a beautiful country full of wonderful and friendly people.

  2. You can take your USD to Cuba and change it over to CUC. However, when exchanging USDs, there is a charge of at least 10%, whereas other funds do not.

So as not to lose in the exchange, perhaps you may want to consider changing your USD to CAD, Euros or UK Sterling and taking those with you.

If you have Mexican Pesos, those are accepted and changed there as well.
