  1. Oh yeah, definitely.  The past week has been an internetfest for me!  I even "date" through a computer now! lol

  2. Sure, we isolate ourselves with computers like we are doing now. This is not even a conversation it's writing an answer to an alvatar.

  3. No.

  4. No, I don't.

I can see why you might think that - a decade ago there was a huge worry about kids staying at home playing computer games and not socialising.

But now we have Facebook, MySpace, BeBo, Second Life etc, which are excellent tools for bringing people together - just not face-to-face.  However, technology develops, so in a few years we might be able to have virtual meetings which are indistinguishable from "real life" meetings.  (note the quotes!  in such a situation, there may be very little difference between real and virtual life.  except the possibilities in virtual life will be far far greater...)

It's not about how advanced the technology is, it's about how we use it, which in turn is dictated by society, not technology.

  5. when i was young we used to play outside all day because there were none of the mordern machines of today the kids have

  6. definately, since i got my laptop and broadband havent been out in days...

  7. in some circumstances . like you can shop online

but then theres the mobile phones, which means your accessible wherever you go ...

  8. You could argue the opposite, with technology we have more communication with each other and are more connected then ever before.

  9. yes i do believe it to be true, as you can do far more in home now, because of the advanced technology , so this Will make people more isolated.

  10. I'm afraid this is true.

In the "old days", before computers and, more especially, the mobile 'phone, you had to actually meet with someone if you wanted to interact with them. Now it is possible to text them, chat with them, and even see them live, all with the use of technology. You don't need to meet anyone personally at all.

I think this is a great loss, from several points of view. I love meeting people, even if it turns out I don't actually like them!

You can read more from a person's demeanour and facial expressions than ever you can from a text message, or even a 'phone call. Therefore it is possible, often, to judge whether or not the truth is being told.

But nonetheless, it is very nice to be able, by using modern technology, to speak with friends or loved ones who are overseas, or very far away. That bit of technology I like!

I don't think families, in general, will ever go back to those cosy fireside chats which were common-place before television, and I think that's a pity.

  11. I dont know about isolated but I do think new technologies are robbing us of our ancient cultures. Nobody goes to church anymore, girls wear trousers, our culture is defining us as individuals. In the past people had  more national identity. The planet is now a global village & we can travel wherever we want. It's good in a way but also we are losing our identity
