The most egoistic cricketers-Part II
(Continued from Part I)
Yuvraj Singh
The dazzling young Indian player who is not that young anymore, turned into an overweight wreck of fun. The 29-year-old has lost his form and charisma. He is physically old; however, mentally there is no evidence that he is even close to 29. It seems as
if Yuvraj is carrying a bruised body and mentally he is in a land of fairies who are chanting “Yuvi, Yuvi.”
The cricketer is very down to earth, yet his head is floating somewhere in fluffy clouds. His Twitter bio reads “Cricketer, Celebrity, Entrepreneur, budding Philanthropist a.k.a Yuvi.” It describes him well. He was explosively talented but got lost in the
glamour and assignations with Bollywood A-lists. Then, the player packed whatever was left in him in a bundle and threw it in the sea of the Indian Premier League.
The cricketers’ bank balance grew and his waistline increased with time but his ego overgrew everything. Yuvraj reflected on his slumping performance, “I’m just like any other guy”- very down to earth, followed by, “ I guess the only difference is that every
day I go to work I am watched by 1.2 billion people who are always expecting excellence from me,”- goes back to his fairyland.
The players’ ego hit rock bottom when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and he came on the pitch as India’s 12th man in Colombo. The Sri Lankan fans cried in mockery, calling him a “water-boy.” Yuvi then retreated back to the dressing room and drank
heaps of water.
Herschelle Gibbs
If ego could take the form of a book, it would look a lot like the South African batsman’s autobiography, “To the Point”. Gibbs wrote, or at least replayed it to some person who knew how to write that he has an undeniable talent when it comes to
sport, be it cricket, soccer, rugby or judo.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021 describes himself on Twitter as “a traveling cricketer”- anyone who read the second chapter of his book will know he loves traveling. He further articulated that he “lives it up large”- of course a large ego that is.
The cricketer turned writer once expressed that he has never read a book; heck does not even know how to read. But he attempted to write the book and the reader wants to pull his hair out and scream “just what is the point” at the end of the book. Still,
Gibbs milked out millions and is still arrogant. Another quote from his book affirmed, “Yes, I’m only too aware of the natural talent I have for the game – it would be insincere for me to pretend otherwise.” It explains everything about Mr. Gibbs.
Andrew Hilditch
You all might know him as the one who pushed Australian cricket in a rabbit hole but he is one arrogant Australian cricketer who has stuck to the selection panel since 1996.
The Aussie knows that he and his team made huge mistakes during the Ashes campaign. Hilditch invited the entire population of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to feature in the squad and even contacted some foreign players. Conversely, the Australian remained adamant that they
did a “very good job” in selecting the team.
The cricketer even went one step ahead and said that he will not step down until and unless he is kicked out of Cricket Australia. And he does not have a Twitter page. Enough said…
