The most electrifying wrestler in the history of wrestling – The Rock – Part 2
The Rock shattered all myths of the wrestling business and became the youngest ever WWE Champion. The Rock humiliated and fought with some of the greatest wrestlers of all time including the Under Taker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind and Triple H. The Rock also created one of the most successful and entertaining tag teams of all times called the Rock and Sock connection. This team won the WWE Tag Team Championship after defeating the dangerous tag team of the Big Show and Under Taker.
After winning the Tag Team Championship on three occasions, The Rock then went after the most prestigious prize in the business - the WWE Championship. The Rock then made history when he won the Royal Rumble in 2000. It was a Royal Rumble to remember as near the ending of the match, The Rock tossed the world’s largest athlete, The Big Show over the top rope to win the fight. The win at Royal Rumble guaranteed The Rock a title opportunity for the WWE Championship at Wrestle Mania.
The Rock was betrayed by the Chairman of WWE, Vince McMahon who slammed a steel ladder on his head and helped Triple H to win the title. The Rock then later went on to win the WWE Championship at the King of The Ring. That was a high point in his career as he was the most sought after wrestler in the business. People used to learn his electrifying catchphrases and considered it an honour to say them on camera. His style of respecting no one suited well with the rebellious teenage population of that time.
The Rock always backed his words by action as he successfully defended the WWE Championship gold against some of the top wrestlers in the industry. The Rock defeated the likes of Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Kane and Triple H to defend his title. Many wrestlers tried their luck to defeat the Great One and strip him of his title but The Rock defeated one wrestler after the other in epic matches.
The Rock then started a bitter feud with the Olympic Gold medallist, Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship. Both these wrestlers fought their final war at No Way Out with the WWE title on the line. It was an electrifying match but at the end, it was the People’s Champion as usual who won the WWE title by pinning Kurt Angle in the middle of the ring. This was the time when he started his movie career and went on for a movie role in Mummy Returns.
The Rock returned back to the ring and realized that the world had turned upside down. That was the time when Shane McMahon bought WCW and was looking to buy the WWF. The father and the son fought in a classic rivalry and eventually decided that they should settle their scores in a mega tag team elimination “winner-take-all” match. The fight included the stipulation that both WCW and WWF will bring their best 5 wrestlers and the company whose tag team will lose the match will be taken over by the rival company. It was a high stakes fight and there was no room for even the smallest of mistakes.
The Rock came back to the ring and had to make a decision between joining the WWF or WCW. Both sides were pressurizing him as they knew that The Rock was a key to success. It was a difficult decision to make for him as he loved the WWF but its owner; Vince McMahon had betrayed him over and over again.
