The most electrifying wrestler in the history of wrestling – The Rock – Part 3
This is about the life of the wrestler who single handedly revolutionized the concept of wrestling entertainment and became the most popular wrestler in the late 1990’s and the early 2000’s. The Rock shattered many myths as he became the youngest WWF Champion. During his wrestling career, The Rock humiliated and locked horns with some of the greatest wrestlers of all time including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Under Taker, Mankind and Triple H.
After winning dozens of championships in different genres of wrestling, The Rock faced one of the most difficult challenges of his career. The Rock returned to the WWF at a time when both WWF and WCW were getting ready to fight a mega tag team elimination match to determine their future. The stakes were sky high. Any one of the company losing the match would cease to exist. The Rock had to make the right decision between joining either of the two companies.
All wrestling fans had their eyes fixed on The Rock and they desperately wanted him to join the WWF. Both Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon were in the ring and were pleading The Rock to join their respective companies. The Rock made history as he gave a beating to both McMahon’s and then told his fans that he would join the WWF. It was a sight to watch as fans cheered him for his decision.
That decision was followed by carnage as the teams of WCW and WWF clashed in an epic match. WCW was represented by Shane McMahon, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Kurt Angle and Stone Cold Steve Austin. WWF represented by the Under Taker, Kane, Big Show, Chris Jericho and The Rock. The Rock defied all odds and pinned the Texas rattlesnake in the middle of the ring to save WWF and put WCW out of business. He then engaged in an epic match against Hulk Hogan at Wrestle Mania XVIII and defeated him to make history.
After beating the h**l out of Hulk Hogan at the biggest stage of them all, The Rock had established his reputation as the most dominating wrestler of all time. But Rocky said in an interview that the only thing that hurts him is the thought that he has not been able to beat the Texas rattlesnake in a Wrestle Mania match. In fact The People’s Champion had confronted Stone Cold at two different occasions at Wrestle Mania and Stone Cold defeated him on both occasions. Austin once defeated him on his own at Wrestle Mania XV. The Rock was given one last chance when it was decided that he would face Stone Cold at Wrestle Mania XIX.
The Rock fought for a chance of a life time and defeated Stone Cold after delivering three Rock Bottoms in a row. The defeat was too much for Stone Cold and he retired soon after the match. The Rock had fulfilled his destiny and he left the wrestling ring for a career in movies. Rocky briefly returned at the occasion of Wrestle Mania XX to form the Rock and Sock connection again and fought in a handicap tag team match against Evolution, comprising of Batista, Randy Orton and Ric Flair. Evolution cheated during the match and defeated The Rock and Sock Connection. One of greatest wrestling careers of all time was now coming to an end.
The Rock came back to WWE in 2008 to induct his father, Rocky Johnson and his grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia into the WWE Hall of Fame. The Rock entertained the crowd with his charismatic speaking ability as they chanted “one more match” during his speech. After all these years, WWE continues to sell T-shirts with Rock’s logo on it. Many wrestlers will come and go in the squared circle of the WWE but there will only be one “Jabroni beating, pie eating, all around, Smack it Down, the People’s Champ, The Rock”
