Ok, its kinda embarrasing but I didn't study much so to give it straight I'm stupid. But I have to get a great grade's so I'll be in the better school. Are it kinda too late for me or there's still some little tiny hope on me?

Yeah... I start studying right now but its all a bit fuzzy in my head. If you wanna say "serve you right" its really true. But please at least say something to chear me out!

I'm 15.

  1. You're not actually stupid of course but you will do better on your test if it's a written one, to try to spell all the words correctly. There's no point in getting unnerved about the test. The real exam is for you to examine why you didn't try harder - perhaps you really don't want to be in the "better" school - will you miss your mates? Studying out of books: Look at all the chapter headings in the index and study the subtitles and the brief descriptions. What do you not know? Go to those pages and using your finger to guide you, quickly browse through those sections. You may discover you know more than you expected and this will boost your confidence before the test. Think about what questions might be asked of you as you go over the material.

  2. OK dude. You're kinda scre*d, but to cheer you up....

Yeah, this is the most important exam of your life. So far. What are you, 16? Believe me, there will be many, many more exams throughout your life. Formal or not. Learn from this experience.

Get on Google right now and search for "pass tests." Do whatever they say.

If you don't make the grade, you know, beat yourself up a little, but don't kill yourself. Get better. Be stronger. Learn. LIfe has a funny way of providing second chances.

  3. It is not too late. I studied for my 'O' Levels last minute as well, and did very well. I am sure you know more than you think, so worry not.

But PLEASE, do not do this again...  I was lucky to ace my "O" Levels, but I was basically lazy (and stupid) and tried to pull off the same stunt in my "A" Levels, not surprising, I flunked it. Total disaster. I believe you will ace this exam if you start now, but do not try it again at higher grade, you will not be as lucky.

You can start by studying in the mornings and afternoon, for eg, if you have a maths paper in the mornings, then you do the bulk of your maths revision in the mornings. If your science exams is in the afternoon, then revise most of your sciences in the afternoon. I read it somewhere that this will train your brain to be most alert for that subject at that time. i do not know how much water it holds, but desperate times, desperate measures. Also, do not be tempted to burn the midnight oil.

Take scheduled break (maybe a 2 min break every half hour, take a walk around the house and look at trees); this will clear your mind so that you can concentrate better. Not many people can sit and concentrate for hours at a stretch, so its better to rest then start again.

When revising maths; do the questions that you know first. Build up a momentum, many people I know have this "maths high"; they get more and more confident (and happy) when they start to solve maths questions. So try not to attempt the difficult questions first, it is discouraging if you get one right and the next one wrong. Ultimately you must tackle the difficult questions, but it is better to tackle them knowing that maths is doable.

Learn to plan your time, you must not spend too much time any particular subject, unless you are good in the others.

You can easily get 80% of the result during your first 20% effort in a subject, but to try to aim for 100% will consume more than 80% of your effort. So it is wiser to spread out your effort so that you can score 80% in 5 subjects rather than 100% in 1.

Lastly, log off the net. Close all your IM chat windows!

Speaking of which, I need to get back to work as well.

All the best! You can do it!

  4. Just calm down. What is done is done. Mabe this will teach you in the future to study. You really need to start studying. You may be surprised what you retain in your head. Just read one ch at a time and make notes or highlight.
