Question:

The multiple vortices tornado in Indiana?

Can someone tell me if these are just two massive tornadoes Or are they part of a multiple vortex tornado.

If it is multi vortex its the biggest i've seen in a while.

  1. It's a single tornado with mini tornaodes inside, those mini tornadoes are called vortices, most large tornadoes which are over a 1/4 mile wide ususally contain multiple vortices, so if you see smaller tornadoes inside the main funnel, those are what they are.

That is one tornado with at least two vortices.  Note that if you look higher on this picture, the two vortices is part of a larger single vortex or wall cloud above it.  Research over the past decade seems to indicate that many tornadoes do have multiple vortices...even the weaker ones...for at least part of its tornadic life cycle.
