I agree with you that getting rid of the "new news" asterisk was a step backwards, but I don't think that totally ruins the page.

If you want a way to scan for new news for your portfolio I suggest you use Yahoo's ability to display multiple quotes on one screen.

To do this enter the ticker symbols of all your stocks in a quote box, separated by spaces then click "go". You will get a screen with a single line quote for each symbol. After the line for the last symbol you entered you will get all the headlines for all the symbols, most recent first.

To avoid having to retype all the ticker symbols again in the future, save the page as a "favorite" (Internet Explorer) or "bookmark" (Netscape Navigator).
