Question:

The mysterious laundry phenomenon....?

I buy my fiance plain, 100% cotton white shirts. I buy myself 100% cotton shirts (although more interesting than just white).

Whenever I do the laundry, if I put my shirts through the dryer they will shrink so I have to air-dry them. However, whenever I put my fiance's shirts through the dryer on the same heat for the same amount of time that would make mine shrink, they come out the same size!

It seems like I am the only person who cannot machine-dry my shirts! Everyone else (like my future MIL, my mom, my fiance, my friends) can just throw all of their cotton shirts in the dryer and they will not shrink!

What makes my clothes so special that they ALWAYS shrink, yet my fiance's clothes don't (the same goes for jeans, etc).

  1. The cotton in your shirts may not be preshrunk.  The quality of the cloth is different in mens and womens tees.  I have bought Hanes for her for me and regular Hanes tees for my DH and mine shrink and his do not.  The cotton feels different too even though it is the same manufacturer and both 100% cotton.

  2. its a conspiracy ,your clothes don't like you and every body's in on it!

  3. Where do you buy your clothes from? If you have a lot of clothing from the same store that might be why. Even though you and your fiance both have 100% cotton clothing they may be different quality. Try putting your clothes on no heat and just let them tumble dry.

  4. Some clothing manufacturers use pre-shrunk cotton material.  Your fiance's shirts must be made from this type of material.  I have some cotton shirts that have shrunk and some that haven't.  There is really no way for you to know which material you have gotten.
