  1. I have purchased government surplus office products and the price is just in line with its conditon and utlility.   My uninformed reaction is that there is a flaw in the "$300 Benz."   Specifically, why would a car dealer buy from the manuafacturer if there reallly was an absurdly priced motor  vehicle at government auction?   I say its a myth.  Further, there is something about the drug related crimes that should make a bidder cautious about jumping into the bidding for on a government seized car.  MYTH.

  2. You can get some good cars from a government auction. They usually go for a couple hundred or thousand less than what you would pay at a dealership. The only thing is that they are sold in as-is condition. So make sure you give it a good look around before buying!

http://www.mycarauctionreview.com has a couple of car auction sites you can go to that have seized cars.

  3. Government auctions provide NO titles.  You can't drive a vehicle on any street without registering it with a title. They are cheap because they have to become parts cars.  The government can not guarantee miles since they have NO idea if they are true and correct. The reason go on why they are cheaper.  They are cheaper because they are nearly worthless.  If it was a good idea every dealer would buy these cars, dealers are way ahead of the general public when it come to purchasing car.

  4. It's not a myth. These auctions are held all over the country all the time. But these are auctions, and you can sometimes get great bargains, sometimes not, espcially if there are other bidders who like the same car you like. Like any other auction, you can overbid and pay too much if you get excited.

You can find these auctions announced in a local newspaper on a certain day of the month. You would have to call the newspapers in your area to find out which one does it, and on what day. Also you can check FirstGov.gov to find federal auctions. Here's an article that has a lot more details:
