The mythical Nikon D90?

If it's ready, so am I. If not, I'm ready to start looking at Canon again.

If anyone has some historical knowledge of Nikon's past release dates to use as a reference for any future products, it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Apparently the D90 is going to be announced on Wednesday, the 27th, but i'm not sure if it'll be in stores then.

  2. Do you have a camera at present with which you take good pictures? If so, why do you have to change? This constant updating and getting the latest male jewellery is just nonsense.

  3. Generally, the technology advancement is in increments of 18 to 24 months ... except when a current model is selling so well and the next incremental technical change will either put the next generation of a particular camera model into a different price break or a new technology is in the manufacturing stream and is going to take just a little longer.

The Canon 5D has been with us since August of 2005 ... three full years ... and is still being sold.  The new 5D Mark II is about to be released, but as you can see, the 18-24 month cycle did apply to the 5D

Another camera that is not following the "standard" is the Nikon D40, one of the most successful entry level cameras made.  It has been on the market for just over 24 months, its replacement has been available for 8 months and yet the D40 is still being made and still breaking records in sales.

The D80 has been around for just 24 months, so I would suspect that the new "D80" will be introduced soon.

As far as your idea of switching to a Canon, first of all it is a terrible financial decision ... replacing all your lenses with a different brand and selling your old equipment will still cost a bundle ... if you are seriously thinking about it, crunch the numbers and you will find buying a D300 and using your existing lenses will cost far less.

  4. Since Photokina, the big international photo equipment show in Germany is just around the corner you can expect announcements about new cameras to come out in the next few weeks.  I don't know about new Nikcannon cameras specifically.
