The name 'Xander'....

Question

Is this really a popular name now? Why not just name the child Alexander and call him Xander? Do people really name their children nicknames? Cruel.

It is becoming more popular. I don't like the name. I like alexander more though, and I would probably call him either Alex, or Xander.

And yes, people do really name their children nicknames. Some of them are nice like Katie, but I don't like Lexi, Maybe Alexis. But not Lexi.

I am not a fan of the nickname as full name trend, either.

Also, I hate Xander as a nickname for Alexander.  I do love Alexander, though, as well as Alex and Sasha!

I don't think it is too popular although i have seen a few people on here ask about it.

Yes sad but true people do give their kids nicknames instead of proper names e.g Kayla, Tommy, Bobby, Shelly, Maddie.

One of my friends named her son Xander Jackson.  And no it's not cruel!  You gotta have some original names rather that old fashion

Sorry, Xander loving people. It just sounds cruelly incomplete to me as a name. Like something is missing or being avoided. And the X is confusing. It will always sound like 'Zander', which sounds like a gander - a male goose.  Alexander is an awesome, powerful name. Why not use it in it's entirety?

I agree completely! The child might not like the name Xander when he gets older. If his parents have named him Alexander, then he can pick one of several nicknames rather than being stuck with one that was only in fashion for a short length of time

alot of ppl call their child nicknames i have a mate who is called dicky which comes from richard,sometimes its cruel
