Hiya guys i just wanted some info about the name Bethany-i really like it but i heard the meaning of it is "House of unripe figs" or a place of figs.So Biblically what does this mean?Is it a good name for a child or not?

Please use scripture if you can to back your answers wherever possible.I think the meaning of names is quite important.

Thankyou in advance xSista.Sx

  1. I can't back my answer with scripture, but I can back it with personal experience: My name is Bethany, and if you're worried about your baby having a common name, then Bethany is a good one to choose. It's not weird or trendy, but I was always the only one in my class!  And I get loads of complements on it, too.

  2. It's actually the name of a City and it does mean Place of Figs. Probably because a lot of figs grew there. I don't have a specific Bible verse, but it's mentioned in the New Testament, I would look in Matthew chapter 1 or 2.

*edit* I did a search Matthew 21:17, Matthew 26:6, Mark 11:1 those are just a few verses where Bethany is mentioned.

  3. try looking at http://www.babynames.com

they say the meaning to it

  4. there are several places Bethany is mentioned in the bible.

Bethany visited by Christ  Matthew 21 verse 17

Bethany the home of Lazarus,Mary and Martha John 11 verse1

Bethany Jesus entertained by Simon the leper  Mark 14 verse3

Bethany Lazarus raised at John 11 verse 1

Bethany  Christ ascended at Luke 24 verse 50

Bethany is a beautiful name for a child.i knew a couple who were very religious and they named their second daughter Bethany because it was a place of such importance to Christ.

    good luck.
