I need help for yet another language report - on the Middle Ages. So does anyone know the name of a medieval woman, or specifically a teenager if possible? Not a girl who's poor, like a serf, but had a higher ranking without being a princess or queen. Thanks!

  1. Which culture?  The German version of a name will be different from the English version of the same name, for example.

  2. Do you mean a name such as 'Jane' or do you mean a name would you use to describe such a person like 'maiden' etc...?

There were no teenagers as such in the Middle Ages, the idea of teens as a separate group only came about in the last hundred years or so before then it would have been infant-child-young woman.

  3. Elizabeth

    Joan

    Margaret

    Catherine

    Frideswide

    Joyce

    Millicent

  4. Marion.

  5. eloise?

  6. Back them the life spans were alot shorter and being a "teen" didn't exist. You were a child, married young (around what we call the teen years now and younger in some cases) then you were a mother. If people back them died really young they didn't have time for "teen" years. This whole concept of "teen years" started in the 1900's maximum. With the introduction of science and medecin people started living longer and that's when they realized that they didn't have to rush and get married and have kids quickly because they'd die. Then later on media began to pop up and market to this generation  of teens. And since most of the time they didn't have anything to do (not getting married and having children) they seemed very lazy and laid back then bringing the stereotype of teens.

In a nut shell there names would have been the same as a parents name. You can pick any bible name as they would usually name their kids after names in the bible such as Mary which was very common.
