  1. Amtrak is the only long-distance passenger railroad in the USA. You can see their train schedule at:

    http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentSer...

  2. AMTRAK

  3. You can take an Amtrak train from Washington, DC to Chicago and then connect to another one running to Reno, Nevada.  There is no rail service into Las Vegas.

Check the link below to find reservations on AmTrak

  4. Amtrak is NOT PRIVATE OWNED, it is a goverment operation.

And it isn´t a "railroad", as Amtrak operates trains mostly over tracks owned by private freight railroads (with exceptions from Washington DC to Boston, New Haven to Springfield, Philadelphia to Harrisburg and other short sections of tracks).  Amtrak can be qualified as a "train operator" more than a "railroad" in most of the US.  AND there are no direct trains from Virginia to Nevada...

  5. You must mean the Virginia and Truckee Railroad:

    www.steamtrain.org

"Virginia" means Virginia City, not the state.
