Question:

The need for an eye exam?

I would like to purchase contact lenses online, but most of the sites need a prescription. But what I find odd is that I thought the eye exams were required to do the fitting. The websites like 1800contacts.com..don't really have any size choices for the eye....they only have power choices. So why need an eye exam if there's no option to pick the size? Thanks xD

  1. Websites will require a base curve and diameter.  Those specify size.  And you would still need the eye exam to know the power you need as well.

  2. Ugh.  Every contact lens fits differently.  Different brands fit differently from each other.  The other thing is that contact lens users almost universally abuse their contacts and get themselves into a world of hurt because of it.  About the only thing that occasionally keeps them honest is the need to get a new contact lens prescription.

I've pulled three patients out of contacts this week because their eyes looked like a bomb went off on them from contact lens abuse.  NONE of them knew anything bad was going on.

  3. Hey

Eye exam is absolutely necessary for prescription. No doctors can give lenses without prescription.

I would try lasik for better alternatives
