The new MLB CBA: A combined effort of owners and players -MLB Update
Reaching a deal that ensures smooth work flow and uninterrupted financial transactions anywhere in the world today is extremely rare due to the crisis that has hit everywhere throughout the globe, but in Major League Baseball (MLB), it is a reality.
A new, five-year, collective bargaining agreement (CBA) was reached between owners and players on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in which both shareholders signed and reached mutual terms on the issue which has affected the National Hockey League (NHL), National
Football League (NFL) and most recently, the National Basketball League (NBA), but for the MLB, it is something which has sustained peace in their league for the past 21 years.
After reaching the agreement, MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, was especially thrilled at the occasion on seeing how the owners and players have worked out a strategy to ensure peace well through the 2016 season.
"I am thrilled for the fans that the clubs and the players of Major League Baseball, together, have the opportunity to further build on our game's unprecedented popularity," Commissioner Bud Selig said.
In order to keep the MLB running, the owners and players knew that it would not be an easy task with the current financial situation around the world and especially in America, which led both stakeholders ready to compromise on much needed aspects like salary
and overspending.
Being one of the most popular sports in the country compared to other leagues, the MLB terms this as one of the reasons for how they continue to maintain peace.
"It's interesting to note that baseball's popularity, which has manifested in a myriad of ways, has been at its greatest in the last 15 or 16 years," said Commissioner Bud Selig at the press conference. "One of the primary reasons, if not the primary reason,
has been because of labor peace."
The National Hockey League (NHL) last saw a lockout during the 2005-2006 regular season, which obviously brought a new down for the league and now are also working with a CBA of their own implemented, something they should have followed earlier like the
MLB, which continues to provide entertainment and unprecedented experience to the fans around the world.
