The new ball rule was hugely beneficial for India’s fast bowlers says Vinay Kumar – Cricket News Update
Indian pacer, Vinay Kumar, who played a major role in England’s recent 8 wickets rout against the Men in Blue, has said that the new ball rule, applied by the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625), under the One Day International (ODI) format, has been quite effective for the team’s pacers, especially during their recent triumphant bout against the Poms.
In a bid to revamp the ODI set-up, the ICC recently announced that addition of new rules under the format – with the use of two balls being one of them.
According to the statute, two new balls are to be used in each innings of a match, with the bowlers, from both the ends, will have to use separate new balls.
Many believed that the rule might hinder the swing for fast bowlers, due to slighter wear and tear of the ball – as agreed by Kumar.
During his post-match comments, the 27-year-old speedster admitted that the use of two balls increased the swing, during the preceding bout at Delhi where he bagged 4 impressive wickets against England, which remained to be quite useful for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s pacers.
“I am feeling good. I am happy with my performance (in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Vinay-Kumar-c2237 said.
“Previously, the ball used to swing max 5-6 overs but now it keeps on swinging for 10-12 overs. It (two new balls) is a plus factor for bowlers,” he added.
India marked an imposing, 8 wickets reprisal against the English tourists on Monday in Delhi, when the two sides faced each other in the second ODI from the 5-match series.
Opting to bat first, England was reduced to pile up a modest chase of 238 runs in 48.2 overs, losing all players; complements to Kumar’s imposing haul of 4 wickets, giving away 30 runs in 9 overs.
As for the team’s batting response; thanks to the undefeated partnership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, the Indian hosts finally trailed on to cover up the mark in 36.4 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 will now be facing the Men in Blue at the 3rd ODI of their tour, which kicks off today, October 20, 2011, at Mohali.
