We are urged to "Manage in Accord with Disposal Laws". What are the "Disposal Laws" and does anyone know how to safely dispose of the bulbs?

  1. Yeah! Lets pass more laws and enact more taxes!

We don't pay enough taxes now!

I for one am sick and tired of netting that 30% of my income!

Please Mr. Government Man! Please raise my taxes and we can pretend we're 'Saving The Earth'!

Earth to you: Mercury is a NATURALLY OCCURRING ELEMENT!!!!!!!

  2. whosoever sells those things should also be a depository for recycling them, they will pollute............tom

  3. they also save you very little. get LED bulbs instead.

  4. Mercury is in all florescent bulbs.  There are no disposal laws.  Email your governor to push for a law to create one.

  5. There are small amounts of mercury in the compact fluorescents.  Most counties and many cities have disposal sites for hazardous waste.  If they break, you should also be careful about how you clean them up.  There's good info at this site:  http://www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/pr...

Regarding the comment that they don't save much, that is absolutely false.  The equivalent of a 60 watt regular bulb uses only 13 watts in a cfl bulb, which is less than 1/4 as much energy.  Replace all the bulbs in your house (except those on dimmers as cfl's can't dim) with fluorescents, and all the bulbs in a city, and the savings are enormous.  LEDs are the future, but as of now they are still very expensive and in low production for residential applications.

  6. To safely dispose of the CFL  light bulbs it is best to go to a hazardous waste collection facility.  This is where you can give batteries that were used in both your cars and your gameboy, along with paint, herbicides, and alot of other items.

To find one just look in your yellow pages, or look it up on the internet.
