Question:

The next evolution of the human race?

What do you think will be the next evolution of the human race? When you consider that we evolved over billions of years from single-celled organisms (if you believe in Evolution) to the magnificently complex multi-cellular organisms that we are today - what evolutionary changes do you think we'll see a million years from now? What do you think the human body will evolve to look like? Also, what abilities do you think we may develop (e.g. - being psychic will be the norm, ability to transcend back and forth into the 4th dimension, etc)?

  1. there's no telling.

    however, here's an interesting story.

"In 1980, a man from a small town called Limone Sul Garda in northern Italy went to a doctor for some problem, not heart related.

Testing of his blood showed very high levels of triglycerides, and very low levels of HDL, the good form of cholesterol.  By all rights, the man should have either been dead from, or in imminent danger of a heart attack.

But his arteries were clear.  Analysis of his blood showed he had a very special form of Lipoprotein, a type of HDL.  And further work with this particular type of Lipoprotein revealed astounding results.

of the forty or fifty people in that tiny Italian town, all descended from a man born in 1760, a man who had a small change in his genes, not a single one has yet to die from heart disease!"

asking  "how will we evolve"  doesn't recognize how evolution works.

    one single individual changes.

if the change is sufficiently advantageous, then all that individual's offspring will kill off all the competition, and the population afterward will consist solely of offspring of that individual.

now, it doesn't always work this way.

for example, if the change allowed the individual to breathe underwater, maybe all his descendants would live in the ocean and the rest of us would live on land.  that way, the 2 groups wouldn't compete for the same resources.

sickle cell anemia is another very interesting evolutionary change.  this is a very interesting article, and well worth reading.

<<A common misconception is that natural selection somehow produces a desirable change: "giraffes grew long necks in order to reach leaves high in trees." This is NOT the way in which natural selection works, however. Natural selection does not promote or produce a change in an organism. Rather, a change occurs because of spontaneous alterations or mutations in the DNA genetic code. Changes in the genetic code can alter the physical characteristics of the organism. If the new trait gives the organism a survival or reproductive advantage over its fellows, the new trait will be represented in the second generation more frequently than it was in the first generation. This is the natural process by which  advantageous characteristics are selected.>>

  2. are pinky toe is sort of like a vestigial organ and my bio teacher told me that 4 toes are actually more dominant that 5..weird, i know..lol

its not a big change but maybe in the future we will have four toes, and maybe our skin will change..in accordance to texture...with global warming becoming more and more evident and humans are becoming more exposed to harmful uv rays...evolution might start to kick in and our skin will be able to deflect and protect us...according to darwins theory if survival of the fittest..we have to find a way to adapt or we're all dead..lol..jk

  3. I've been watching Star Trek a lot recently, so I feel qualified to answer this.  I believe more and more focus will but put on our brains while less and less will be put on our bodies.  So over millions of years, our bodies will become less and less useful while our minds will become more and more powerful.

  4. Actually I think it will be some type of giants.

Not like Jack and the beanstalk but some kind of huge being.

  5. I don't think we'll continue evolving. We're too numerous and widespread; and the pressure to volve is gone, given technology. (Most species have been stable through most of their existence.)

Even if we DO evolve, we won't develop impossible abilities, such as the ones you list.

  6. I think we would be much smarter. Babies born right now are born into technology, they can learn how to use computers from a very early age. A slight evolution in the brain is happening right now.

  7. Going by the way humans treat the earth, themselves, and other spieces. I say our time is short on this earth. If anything we will evolve into a big puddle of radioactive goo

  8. Well, according to most studies, we're all going to lose our earlobes next. Hardly a superpower, but I just figured I'd mention that.

I think, or hope, rather, that we're going to develop a better adaptation to temperature, so that changes in temperature and exposure to heat and cold won't affect us so much.

I also hope we develop a resistance to migraines, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, depression...in other words, to the crushing pain of modern life.

Less seriously, I hope men start being born with an innate sense of how to (and an obligation) to please their sexual partners.

More likely, though...ever see "Idiocracy"? We're all bloody doomed.

  9. It is interesting. But I think that we came to the dead end as far as evolution.
