The next solar eclipse?

i heard people say that there was gonna be a solar eclipse august 1st. and its not.

when is the next one gonna be? approx.

lemme get this straight:

a solar eclipse is when the moon covers the sun and the earth becomes dark during the day. correct???

Total eclipses occur in different parts of the world.  The next total will occur in China in 2009.  The next one in America is in 2017.

The next solar eclipse will occur next year on July 22 and will also be visible in China, as well as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Burma.

The eclipse was only visible to those in Northern Canada, parts of the Arctic, China, Siberia, etc.

Solar Eclipses are much harder to view than Lunar Eclipses. In a lunar eclipse, the moon's orbit is directly in line with the Earth and Sun, therefore the Earth's shadow(since one side of the planet is always in night time) is being cast on the moon. The orange color you see the moon turn is the light from thousands of sunrises and sunsets being refracted onto the surface of the moon.

In a Solar Eclipse, the light from the sun is being blocked by the moon for the same reason(it's orbit is in line with the Earth and Sun), but because the moon is not bigger, it only affects a small sliver of the Earth instead of the entire side in daylight. It's a very rare occurence to see a total Solar Eclipse where you live because of that, so if you get the chance you should document it somehow, it's probably a once in a lifetime chance.
