The next step, of an acting career.?

My dream is to be an actress, and you will have no idea how hard i'm working to get somewhere with it, unfortunately i'm not.

I've taken many classes and had much training, but I live in little town in PA so not much around here to really get started. I was just wondering to finally get somewhere what do I need? I have headshots and a resume with all the training I had. Do I NEED an agent? If I don't how to I get work myself? and if I do how helpful is an agent?

Please don't say it's not going to happen and i'm dreaming to big, my friends and family do that enough already.

You can get all kinds of extra work anywhere but LA without an agent, There are all sorts of websites and casting directors for that.  However, if you want to have principal roles, you will need an agent to even find out that the roles are available.    You may want to consider going on vacation to a place where many movies are filmed.  You could set up appointments with a few agents, see if there are any open auditions avail.  

If you get the right agent, then they will be very helpful.  Asking around is a great way to find out  who is really helpful.  DO NOT EVER PAY YOUR AGENT out of your pocket.  They will get paid when you work, and if they ask for money, then it is a sham.  Do not have the agent recommend the photographer, they are ususally in cahoots, and will overcharge you alot!

of course your dream can happen! but yes it would be best to get an agent an agent can get the best kind of auditions that you want, make sure you get the right agent though if you want to be on TV get an agent that is great with getting TV & camercial auditions. while your waiting to get an agent you could look up websites that have auditions on them (never pay for anything it's a scam) you probably want to start with camerical (thats the best way to get started on tv) here are some good websites:
