What role do nice people play in this world? (Broadly)

In what ways could nice people and others missinterpret the meaning of 'nice' and 'being nice'?

nice= doing selfless things and doing things that arent self orientated

being nice to others and ignoring the ones closest to you .  The Father who is always out helping strangers is a nice neighbor but if he is never home to play with his own kids or help his wife is he really nice?

forgive without being asked

give of your excess

There are far more mean people in this world than nice.  People are looking for how much something would sell on e-bay the second they get a gift.  They take advantage of kindnesses, thinking they deserve it.

In our society, it seems like most people live like they are animals with the philosophy of survival of the fittest.  

If more people lived their lives from the list above, then divorce lawyers would have less clients.  Therapists would have to find hobbies, and employers would have to compensate employees fairly.
