The ninth year of the US Open of Mountain biking underway in Vernon, NJ
The official promoters of the U.S. Open of Mountain Biking, Terralogic Park Industries, have attracted scores of bi-cycling fans after announcing the athlete and vendor registration procedure to be officially open.
The four-day elite mountain bike racing event shall start from the 26th of May and conclude by the 29th. The ninth edition of the event will take place in the Diablo Freeride Park’s at Vernon, New Jersey. Gravity
races will also be part of the schedule this year. The riders will be battling for glory, prestige and a large purse of US$50,000.
The U.S. Open of Mountain Biking was founded back in the year 2003 and established to promote a form of gravity racing in America and build an interest in the participants and spectators. Organizers of the event described why they started
the yearly tournament and mentioned that the event came to be, “at a point in time where neglectful sanctioning bodies and sponsors of yesteryear had stripped the US gravity scene of its identity, its soul and necessary funding.”
Now after nine years of its establishment, the US Open of Mountain Biking has proven itself as an elite gravity racing forum. The trend-setting PRO/AM format of the sport was uniquely helpful in giving the up-and-coming athletes a platform
to explore their strength and grit competing against the finest and quickest gravity racers form across the globe.
The major event does not merely concentrate on professional racers, who primarily take center stage at most other events in the US. The U.S. Open has been equally helpful in giving amateur and emerging racers a ground to kick-start
their professional careers, as seen in their performances in several past championships.
The U.S. Open of Mountain Biking shall return to Diablo Freeride Park this Memorial Day weekend, with an enhanced KENDA Downhill course and several venue-wise improvements to the course. There shall be challenging re-routes as well
as some featured additions for the event. The competition indeed carries the legacy of providing the biggest pro-purse in the United States in the most thrilling gravity race in the country besides the lofty cash prize. The growing reputation of the event
is expected to bring in throngs of visitors and spectators.
The Trek World Racing Team’s British rider, Tracy Moseley, and his ex-team mate Andrew Neethling of South Africa, who now races for the Giant Factory Team, won the 2010 edition of the sport. This year, the athlete field in the Men’s
discipline will be capped with a total of 450 contenders. Pre-registration to secure a qualifying position in America’s premier gravity race is now open to all applicants.
