The non favourite entries by Godolphin trainers for the Dubai World Cup Night is being seen as blessing in disguise
Ever since the Dubai World Cup Carnival shot off, the Godolphin has been dominant from all the dimensions and angles however, quite surprisingly Godolphin has only brought four runners on the lineup of fourteen in The Night’s limelight.
Winning the Cup this time would mean that Godolphin will enjoy the glossy glamour a sixth time by bagging the honour that last presented itself to the state of the art racing and training facility, Godolphin, in 2006.
A further baffling fact is that all the four entries that the training duo, Mahmood Al Zarooni and Saeed Bin Suroor are saddling, are not favourites. For them the scenario of not being represented by the favourites, suits the best.
The pressure and responsibility that comes when saddling the favourites, does at times adversely impact the performance of the entries is what the trainers think. Being the favourite comes with strings attached as then you are bound to the best too which
translates through winning the race.
Despite the wish of staying away from being the centre of attention, the horses that they have entered are not less than champions.
Mahmood Al Zarooni is testing his best yet again, Capponi, who is the winner of the Al Maktoum Challenge Round III and is also taking chances with Monterosso who excelled in the Dubai City of Gold.
According to Mahmood Al Zarooni, the two serious threats that are to be seriously considered are So You Think and Game On Dude who are to be potential competition for the entire lineup and not just the Godolphin entries.
The publicity and close scrutiny that Aiden O’Brien is facing is just what the two Godolphin trainers are glad to stay away from..for a change otherwise it is hardly ever that they get to escape the public eye.
The other celebrity trainer, Saeed Bin Suroor, is taking his chances for the richest and grandest night with Prince Bishop and Mendip, yet another pair of highly accomplished horses.
"We are outsiders and I prefer outsider - no pressure," he said yesterday. "When you are the favourite it is very difficult. You have to win with the favourite, but if you have the outsider and you lose then you've lost nothing."
If there is any racing team for The Night that is being feverishly modest then that has to the Godolphin horses, trainers and jockeys. Even if they wish to avoid publicity, it is just what they can no longer disown. The jockeys that are riding are maestros
themselves, Frankie Dettori, Mickael Barzalona and Ahmed Ajtebi.
Not being the highlight on the lineup for a change does not connote that their chances for victory have diminished by any margin. However, the team does agree that the Carnival attracts only the best from throughout the globe which does get the talent and
competition bar soaring.
