b.  The North Atlantic gyre is called the Sargasso Sea.  I have read and seen documentaries which show unfortunately, enormous quantities of plastic bottles, bags, toys, shoes, cigarette lighters, wrappers - just awful pollution in both gyres from years and years of carelessness and stupidity, killing thousands of birds, fish, whales, crustaceans, seals and more.
