I missed a couple of calls today on my mobile phone, and since it was a local number I thought I would wait until I got home to call them back (I was out of town at the time). But, there is no such number!! In automated recording tells me there is no one allocated to this number, how does this happen? BTW, the number has appeared on my Caller ID a month ago, but I just can't think who it belongs to. TIA

  1. A lot of times sales calls/telemarketers will hide their caller ID, or input something fake in place of the real number so you wont know who it is.  Whats more, you wont be able to block this number, or find out the original number.

    Its unfortunate, but legal.

  2. You could try a Google search for the number. If you know of a consumer advice website or something similar, you may find this is a cold call when someone is trying to contact you to sell you something.

You may also have been the victim of a telephone scam.

You dial the number quoted and you get a recording that tells you it's not listed.

But you've just dialled a number that charges you a fortune for the call. The fact that it answered and said "no such number" means you will still pay for the call.

It may look like a local number, but it could also be linked to another number that is premium rate.

Check your phone bill when it comes in.

  3. who really cares who calls? I mean I don't.I feel that if it's an emergency or whatever the person will leave you a message but you don't have to go crazy playing detective and solving wierd phone number crimes.Let it go.You must have more important things to do and to worry about.Like I saidif they really need to speak with you they will leave a message or call back. You'll be okay :)
