I have an incoming high school freshmen summer project to do for the book the odyssey, but I need ideas!

Here are the guidelines:

Create a visual depiction of one scene from any book (chapter) in The Odyssey. It must include on it a quote corresponding to the visual and the book number from which the scene comes. The visual could be a drawing, a model, a statue—anything visual.

Thanks in advance!

  1. My favirite part is where he crawls out of the bushes naked, covered in seaweed and brine, and has to stand there in front of Naussica and beg for her protection. All of her maids scream and run away, but she just kind of stands there and looks at him condescendingly.

I think it's at the beginning of Book 5 or so.

  2. I did this when I was in middle school. I was in a group with two other people. We made a simple model of Circe's(sp?) castle, the woman who seduced men and turned them into animals. We used cardboard for the sides and stapled it together, then threw some clay on the outside of it to add some texture to make it seem more like stone, then mixed together black and white paint to make gray and did the same thing for the inside of the castle. We had it closed on all sides but one, so it was like a window into the castle. We added simple cardboard partitions for rooms. Then we just threw together some simple furniture things to fill the rooms. We had the box glued down to poster board I think or more cardboard, which we had covered with green felt for grass. Then we made little pigs out of clay. Well, it sounds complicated, but it's not. You really don't have to go into that much detail either. I don't think your teacher will expect it to be immaculate. Just have a cardboard box and work with that, or cut off the flaps if you wanted to have it be inside like we did. We chose it because it was one of the most important scenes in the Odyssey. It went over really well. I'm sure you'll be able to find a quote from that. I don't have a copy of the Odyssey so I can't help you with that. But yeah. I'm sure your teacher will like it. It's kind of hard to find anything else that stands out as much except maybe the sirens. To me anyways ha ha. Good luck.

  3. They're lots of great scenes in the book, how about when Odysseus reunites with his son Telemachus, or when he tricked the cyclops Polyphemus, or when Circe turned Odysseus men into pigs,  or Odysseus reunion with Penelope...

  4. Read it.  You should be able to come up with lots of ideas when you're done.
