The official measure of the unemployment rate?

The official measure of the unemployment rate omits many people who don’t have a job but would like one. The omission results in the unemployment rate being an inaccurate measure of the state of the economy.

Give some examples to support this statement.

  1. The official measure also does not include the people whose unemployment benefits have run out and can no longer collect. It only reflects the number of people who are collecting benefits and those who have applied for them. So when the official measure is, let's say, 5%, the real count is around 15% or more. Just another cover up by our Gov. to keep us in the dark as they do with new job growth. Job growth only refers to new jobs created in an expanding market that could include any business from a Macdonalds to high tech or hospitals. It does not reflect the jobs lost to market slow downs, jobs that have been eliminated by high tech and jobs that have been phased out and/or moved to other countries. It is impossible to count the unemployment rate just by how many people are looking for jobs. How can that possibly be tracked? That is why the Gov. only relies on the offical unemployment "who's collecting and who has applied for benifits" tally without factoring in the expired benifit collectors. The Gov. says "if you are in the unemployment system then you're unemployed, if not then you must be employed"

  2. There's also a problem with people who find temporary or seasonal work because they're counted as employed.  Even though they lack steady employment.  Unemployment rates would be incredibly high though if they counted every legal adult without a job.  How would you filter out homemakers that choose to remain unemployed?

  3. It is the rate of people collecting  unemployment insurance only .

  4. Unemployment is measured by people who do not have a job but are looking for one. You seem to have it backwards.
